The Big Debate

“The Great Australian Firewall”
Like 90% of informed people I agree that the government filter will fail in it’s perceived role of protecting internet users. Parents and users should take an active role in monitoring their own internet connection, whether it be a simple and free “open dns” account to a managed router that has UTM – Unified Threat Management which has customizable content filtering, virus protection and intrusion prevention. Now days its a given to have virus protection, however it is essential also to have at least a modem with a firewall that is turned on AND CHANGE THE DEFAULT PASSWORD!
With the prospect of broadband speeds increasing to 100 megabits per second and faster, users will need more internet security as hackers have more opportunity to do damage as you will have a “Super Highway” straight up to your computers front door.
If you are concerned or confused about what this means for you – either having just one computer at home for the kids, or a small business network with remote access, ring us up for a chat to discuss what action is right for you. Both complacency on the part of the parent/owner and curiosity on the part of the child/user can be a formula for disaster – both physically and electronically.
