Microsoft Cold Calling – NOT!
Posted on June 18, 2010
Ive just had a phone call from one of my clients, informing me that a Technician from Microsoft has called them 8 times in one day! This technician was trying to tell my client that their computer was infected, and was pressuring them to purchase software! The client stated that they had their own IT staff that looks after everything, to which the technician replied “Well they won’t have this software”!
Even if Bill Gates personally rings you up out of the blue – NEVER – EVER- trust any advice given over the phone! (See post 4 June – Anti Virus Scam)
This technician got my client to open event viewer – and asked if there were any warnings listed. NOTE – There always is!
Best way to deal with these sorts of phone calls is tell them your phone line is being monitored by Telstra for nuisance calls and … – by this time most call callers have hung up!
As usual if you aren’t quite sure what to do – Like this client – Give me a ring for some free advice.
