Phone Bills
Posted on September 27, 2010
I just received my phone bill, just to discover that my daughter had racked up several hours of interstate phone calls!
This is my business phone as well, and over the last month with support calls, calls to mobiles etc (over 12 hours worth) – the total bill came to $24.61 – that’s $2.00 per hour on average!
Welcome to VOIP – Voice Over Internet Protocol. Also known as Skype (one of the first companies to offer VOIP). If you have a reliable internet – you can have an internet phone, very easy to setup on ADSL (still possible over satellite) and cheap. The hardware is less than $150 , and if you choose the right VOIP provider –
$0 monthly subscription
$0.10 per fixed call anywhere in Australia,
$0.15 per minute to Australian mobiles,
1800 calls are free,
1300 calls are $0.25 per call
The only downside is on no answer – you still get charged the minimum fee of 10 cents.
With these figures – I find it hard to recommend subscribing to a ISP on a bundled plan (phone included with the internet) as these plans seem to be a higher charge for each call plus a monthly subscription.
I have setup several VOIP phones using Mynetfone as the provider and CISCO hardware. Once setup – provides hassle free and cheap calls.
If you are interested in VOIP or would like further information – call us for a friendly chat.
